U.S., European, Arab and African officials will meet March 29 in London to discuss Libya and NATO’s assumption of responsibility for the no-fly zone operation over the country, French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe said March 23, AP reported. Officials from the United States, United Kingdom, France, African Union and Arab League will attend, Juppe said. Officials have agreed that NATO will plan and supervise operations while the European Union will handle humanitarian action, he said. British Foreign Secretary William Hague said the international community must continue its “united and coordinated action.” EU diplomats said a tentative plan would leave the international coalition in charge of political matters and would transfer command of military operations to NATO. NATO member states are nearing completion of the outline, which NATO chief Anders Fogh Rasmussen would like approved the night of March 23.
