Libya: Rebels, Government Trade Blame For Oil Blast

Libyan rebels said Moammar Gadhafi’s forces hit an oil pipeline leading to As Sidra and dropped bombs on storage tanks in the Ras Lanuf area, Reuters reported March 9. Libyan state TV said al Qaeda-backed armed elements were responsible for the explosion. Essam Gheriani, a rebel official in Benghazi, said Gadhafi is attempting to provoke the United States into conducting a land invasion in the hopes that the invasion would boost his support among the Libyan people.
