Croatia: 10,000 Protest Over Economic Woes

As many as 10,000 Croatian anti-government protesters staged a peaceful demonstration in the streets Zagreb on March 6, demanding that the government resign over high unemployment and worsening living standards, Reuters reported. According to state television and Croatian pollster Hendal, 70 percent of Croatian citizens support the protests and 62 percent favor early elections. With an unemployment rate at an eight-year high of almost 20 percent, the country is trying overcome an economic crisis and restore growth following two years of recession.
